So we started practicing in Kevin's basement in Royal Oak until we had our first gig. We all got up and didn't completely suck. This idea was cemented at Jim's Bachelor party where he had set up instruments so anyone could jam. Sure enough, we were not a bowling team, we were a band. We all turned to Paul, the IT master at 89X. Jim says "I play Guitar", Scott says "I played Keyboards in a band in High School", Kevin Yonker (Drummer #1) announced "I Play The Drums". There was Karaoke at the bar and we noticed that Kurt was a pretty good singer. So one night after bowling the 5 members of the team gathered as we usually did and sat at the bowling alley bar bemoaning the fact we had just wasted another 12 bucks a piece. René Marie joins the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis in concert for "'Zat You, Santa Claus?" off their live album, BIG BAND HOLIDAYS.Free Beer began from the ashes of the 89X bowling Team. I'm not bragging when I tell you that we had the distinct pleasure of hearing one of the truly great jazz orchestras and singers in our very own home town last year perform this incredibly arranged Christmas Classic that was written at least sixty years ago by a writer named Jack Fox. Hopefully, you will like some of the new things out as well as many favorites from years past. And, because I have gotten numerous requests from friends and others, I have perused, reviewed, reviewed again, viewed again and listened to countless tunes from every genre of Christmas Music from Stravinksy to Satchmo to continue this holiday tradition. This crazy, eclectic look at the music of the biggest holiday and celebration of the birth of Christ is in year number five.
